Every webmaster MUST try Google AdSense at least for a week.  This program should be your baseline.  Most affiliate programs do not do better than AdSense.

Pros: Context sensitive text, image, and now video based ads.  In less than a second, Google analyzes your webpage and determines the most relevant ads to display for your website.  Google pays between .05 and the highest I've seen is $2.47 per click.  Most clicks average about .20 per click, but it varies greatly based on the vertical market that you are in.

Cons: If you have a highly niche website, there is a possibility of you making more money with other affiliate programs.

With our websites, we average over $6,900 per month with the Google AdSense program.  This is with considerable traffic and over 500 websites.  If you are just starting out, try to get your traffic up and set a goal of $5.00 per day.  After that, start setting your own goals, build your content and more revenue will come.

We would love to hear your opinions of Google AdSense.

I started with Google adsense on August 14 and placed the code on some of my pages (only on pages not listed on the navigation bar of my home pages.)  So, my results for the first 9-1/2 days are:

page impressions: 1949 (range 132 - 352)

clicks: 149 (range 5 - 26)

Page CTR: 7.64% (range 1.55% - 17.42%) (Not inlcuding today so far, which is 42.86% . . . but it's early =)

Page eCPM: $16.08

Earnings: $31.34 (range $1.69 - $6.58)

I am tempted (just a little) to put ads on my main pages, but am concerned about looking less professional and, of course, sending my potential customers elsewhere (like Costco selling adspace to WalMart inside their stores?)

So, how do my numbers look so far, and what do you think about keeping my main pages clean?

I should have listed these statistics about the two other Google adsense itmes I have on the site:  Search and Referrals.  Total statistics:  0.  One click on the referral (pretty sure I should abandone it) and 11 (total for 10 days) queries on search (but no clicks.)  Is search a waste of time?

Your stats look very good.  I would say above 10% click through rate is good, 20% is awsome.  Get rid of the referral stuff, your target audience is not webmasters.

Keep the search box and put it in a useful place.  This usually accounts for about 10% of your AdSense revenue.

This website: softplatz.com/Soft/Audio-Multimedia/Music-Composers/ did an awsome job of using AdSense and keeping it professional looking.

Remember, there is nothing wrong with making money from AdSense on your website.  You just have to make sure that you are not losing the opportunity cost of having your customers go elsewhere.

Well, I'm in a bit of a panic today (but I'll get over it =)

To this hour my ctr is 5.5% (way below average) and the earnings are in the tank, of course.  I changed the look of adsense on my pages and got rid of most of the link units.  My traffic is about average and my eCPM is also in the tank (which of course correlates.)  If anyone has time, please take a look and let me know if I have done something wrong, if this is a normal and I am an old woman, or if I need to get a real job.

Thanks, Mike
