Welcome to the search engine optimization forum section of Affiliate Watchdogs.

To get the discussion going, let's talk about Google.  With the new update of "Big Daddy" by Google, there has come a few changes that not many webmasters have been paying attention to yet.

Google is now looking at your websites TrustRank.  This is not the same as PageRank.  Trust is about:

- how long has your webite been on the web for

- how much content do you have

- what are your outgoing links and how trustworthy are they

- what are your incoming links and how trustworthy are they

For brand new websites, this is not good.  You have to build trust with Google slowly.  It can now take 18-24 months to build high TrustRank with Google.  And in that time, you have to make sure not to screw it up!  MSN and Yahoo are much more liberal.

So, the discussion for today is how do you build trust with Google?  Please start off the first post reply and let us know what you think.

Well, there is little I can do to speed the ageing process of my website =) but what is meant by "bad" out-going links?  And as for "bad" incoming links. . . .how can one control that?  For example, there are websites out there that consist mainly of Google ads.  Since I pay for Google ads, sometimes my ads appear on those sites (well, not anymore since I was advised not to enable content matching =) but some of those sites have titles way off the mark for me (like "fakehandbags.com!)

So, what are "bad" outgoing links and how to avoid "bad incoming links?

Thanks, Mike

First off, the Google Ad links on other people's websites are JavaScript links and are not counted by the major search engines.

A bad outgoing link would be something completely irrelevant to your website topic.  Example: Website about cars linking to a website about pharamacy drugs.  Also, linking out to any site that has almost no content would be bad also (like a link farm).

I wouldn't worry too much about being linked to from bad websites, unless you are buying your links in bulk.  Unless you have an established website, I would stay away from buying links in bulk (over 100 links at a time).  You can buy highly relevant links (2-3 links), but make sure to purchase links that are not located at the very bottom of the page.  You want links that are inner paragraph links if possible.  This is hard to find, even if you are buying the links

The newest accounts still face the toughest test with google.

I think it is great that google is going to require you to "earn" their trust over time, to gain the ability to be trusted enough to gain anything near maximum ad distribution.
It also levels the playing field for those who cannot "overpay" for exposure.

Now it really matters to have great content, nice clean/readable code (css), and relevant links.

It also shows that the companies who are still in business after many years are benefitting from the "age concept" with google. That should count for something, and I am glad google is paying attention to such things.

You know what they always say "Good things comes to those who wait....."
