I haven't tried MySpace specifically for traffic generation, however, I know that it works well for the college age demographic. If you already know someone that is in college with many MySpace friends, you can ask them to send something out about your website and then ask them to send it to their friends and so on...

This will only work if your site is unusual enough for the college age people to be interested in it.

A very easy way to get fast traffic is to submit your really good content to http://www.digg.com. If it's really good content, you will get a traffic explosion (and a nice backlink from Digg).

Also, I recently read an article about getting your content into Google and Yahoo News. Just search in your given topic, then find a website that accepts article submissions and your in within a few days (most likely with a nice backlink to your website).

Hitwise reports MySpace generates more traffic to online shopping and classified sites than MSN.

Has anyone considered social networking sites as a source of additional traffic?

I would love to hear about anyone trying to harnes the potential of Myspace/Tribe/Friendster and other social networking sites.

Are the big hitters the only ones taking advantage of these sites?

Any info on how to take advantage of these sites would be great.
