I haven't done a huge amount of work with blogs because I don't care for the maintenence. This software should be pretty easy to install.

Travis,
Is there an internal blogging tool that you would recommend?
I am looking to install something simple on his site that he would be able to update himself and create blogs whenever he wants to.

Do I need to custom program that in php/asp, or do you have a package that I can buy and have installed?

If it were me, I would create the blog on my website like this:

somesite.com/blog

I would do #2 only for the backlink (but you must remember to link to the blog with 1 external link that is not from the main domain or any domain on that server).

Adding content to the regular part of the site is important also. I tell clients that they need to try and achieve 225 webpages as the ultimate goal. (15 menu items x 15 sub menu items)

Another tip is to change the homepage weekly. This should get the client crawled more frequently and produce better search engine results.

I have a client that has a site on Antique Carpets. He wants to start writing articles that are associated with the industry.

Would it be better to:
1) write the articles and post them within the site
2) create a blog on blogger.com, and point to the clients site
3) create a blog on his own domain
